Transforming Rwanda's Business Landscape: The Role Of Education And Entrepreneurship
Rwanda's Vision 2050 aims to transform the country into a knowledge-based economy, with education and skills development at its core (Government of Rwanda, 2020). A significant milestone was reached on October 11, 2025, with the official opening of Hubbard College of Administration (HCA) Kigali at Century Park Hotel. This event marked a new era in business education, bringing a unique approach that could accelerate Rwanda's ambitious goals.
According to a press release, HCA Kigali's launch represents a commitment to transforming how Rwandans learn, lead, and build businesses that drive sustainable prosperity (USA Today, 2025). The story behind HCA Kigali begins with Venuste Twagiramungu, founder of TRES Infrastructure, Rwanda's first indigenous telecom tower company.
Twagiramungu's experience studying at Hubbard College of Administration in Los Angeles inspired him to bring this proven methodology back home. He discovered a unique way of learning that focuses on results, which transformed his company from a small local business into a corporate firm contributing to Rwanda's telecom infrastructure (Twagiramungu, 2025). This experience motivated Twagiramungu to share these tools with more Rwandans, leading to the establishment of HCA Kigali ← →
Rwanda's economic growth has been remarkable, with a growing focus on entrepreneurship and innovation. The country's business landscape is evolving, with a increasing number of startups and small businesses emerging. However, there is a need for more skilled and knowledgeable entrepreneurs who can drive sustainable growth and job creation.
According to a report by the World Bank, Rwanda's entrepreneurship ecosystem is still in its early stages, with a shortage of business skills and knowledge among entrepreneurs (World Bank, 2022). The Rwandan government has taken steps to address this gap, launching initiatives such as the Rwanda Entrepreneurship and Innovation Network (REIN) to support entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Several business schools and institutions have been established in the country, offering programs in business and entrepreneurship.
For example, the University of Rwanda's College of Business and Economics offers a range of programs, including a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration (University of Rwanda, 2022). Despite these efforts, there is still a need for more effective business education and training programs that can equip entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.
This is particularly important in areas such as financial management, marketing, and leadership.
